The nearly Zero Energy Hotels 2015 conference - neZEH 2015, that took place on the 24th of June at ACROPOLIS, Nice, France, offered a unique forum for attendees from the tourism and hotel sector, sustainable buildings and energy efficiency professionals, EU policy makers, representatives from national, regional and local authorities, as well as other interested stakeholders in order to actively exchange, share and challenge the opportunities of energy innovation through nearly zero energy strategies, as a means to enhance sustainability and competitiveness in the hotel sector.

This international conference, co-funded by the European Commission, took place as part of the Innovative City Convention 2015, a major European and international event which gathered 3000 visitors in 2014.  The language was English and French with simultaneous translation.

Objectives of the Conference

Around two thirds of global carbon emissions come from energy use. The tourism sector, as a provider of services, is an important energy consumer and over 20% of its carbon emissions come from accommodation. There are huge opportunities for the hotel industry to reduce its energy consumption.

The neZEH 2015 conference offered the participants opportunities to:

  • Gain new perspectives on the opportunities of energy innovation in the tourism sector
  • Network with key stakeholders involved on topics related to tourism and sustainable buildings
  • Participate in high-level discussions on the questions that matter most
  • Learn from experts on innovative tools and support mechanisms
  • Get inspiration from the front runners

The neZEH 2015 International conference was organized in the framework of the "Sustainable buildings, cities and territories to face the challenges of climate change" week (22-26 June 2015) which has been labelled "COP21/Paris Climat 2015" as a contribution to the roadmap towards the Paris Climate agreement.
